Climbing the stairs in your wheelchair
How does someone in a wheelchair climb a flight of stairs all by himself, and then come right down again, still seated sedately in his four wheeler?

When I saw 42-year old Erik Kondo’s video demonstration of how he climbed a flight of stairs on Ytube, I was fascinated.

And when I came to the scene of him careening around his yard in a handcycle, all by himself. I told myself way to go, Erik ; you have added another facet to my understanding of Independent Living for People with Disabilities.
I felt i had to know more about him.

Erik Kondo, aged 42, is a father of three from Lexington, Massachusetts, USA
He is also a T4-5 paraplegic and has been for the past 20+ years.
Right now he teaches self-defense to people who “are at a disadvantage relative to their attacker” , and this include people with disabilities.
The 2nd degree black belt holder is founder of the ‘Not- Me’ self -defense progarmme.
The philosophy behind his training methods is indeed an eye opener in more ways than one, and especially relevant in current times when personal safety is so crucial to our loved ones and even for ourselves.
